Who we are
Vita Aid is a community-based organisation working across the UK and Ghana. Our work began in Ghana with direct community health screening and has since grown to include school renovation, skills workshops and environmental clean-up initiatives. We are now bringing the same model to Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities in the UK, drawing on our founder's nursing background to deliver health education and screening through community events. We are led by a small board of trustees and supported by volunteers and community partners in both countries.
What we do
Health, free screening and education on STIs, hypertension, diabetes, HIV, sexual health and period poverty. In Ghana this has meant medical screening and health education delivered directly in communities. In the UK, we are introducing the same health education to Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities through popup screening events at positive community days built around music, food and activities. Education and skills. In Ghana, this includes school renovation, donations of learning materials, and workshops covering practical skills such as braiding, wig-making and clothing production, alongside academic subjects including AI literacy, maths and English. In the UK, this pillar currently centres on health education for BAME communities. Community and environment. Community days that bring people together through food, transport and celebration. Environmental clean-up initiatives paired with education on the practical link between litter and flooding. We work with community leaders and government bodies to embed this locally, rather than as a one-off.
